HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 7
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, and all other members of
the House of Delegates)
Requesting the West Virginia Division of Highways to name the
span of I-81 within the eastern panhandle of West Virginia
the "West Virginia Veterans Memorial Freeway."
Whereas, West Virginia owes a debt of gratitude to her sons
and daughters who served in the Armed Forces of the United
States, those who served with distinction and returned, and those
whom the winds of war swept from these mountains forever; and
Whereas, Several states, including our neighboring state of
Maryland, have named the portion of I-81 passing through their
states in honor of the veterans of those states; and
Whereas, West Virginia was born through the bitter struggle
that divided her people in the War between the States, and it is
a fitting tribute and a demonstration of our respect and
appreciation to name the span of I-81 through our State near
famed Civil War battlefields, in memory of all West Virginians
who served in all wars; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the West Virginia Division of Highways is hereby
requested to name the span of I-81 within the eastern panhandle
of West Virginia the "West Virginia Veterans Memorial Freeway"
and to erect attractive signs so designating it at both
northbound and southbound entrances to our State; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the
Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Highways, the
Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation, the
Director of the Division of Veterans Affairs, the Secretary of
the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, and the
Governor of the State of West Virginia.
